5. Band of the Week: Toy Drive for Pine Ridge

Matt Whipkey

Matt Whipkey

Every year, Lash LaRue throws a big Christmas concert, and instead of collecting a cover charge, he collects toys. Then like a rock ‘n’ roll Santa Claus, Lash drives them up to the Pine Ridge Indian Reservation, one of the poorest places in the country, and hands out the toys to all the little girls and boys. It’s magical. This year, the party stretches across two venues, Reverb Lounge and The Waiting Room Lounge, on Saturday night. Catch headliners Matt Whipkey and, of course, Lash LaRue & Hired Guns. Admission is $10/one unwrapped toy for one venue or $15/two unwrapped toys for both.
